About
My name is Alexis. I am a chronically ill wildlife biology student at a 4-year university in Michigan. All my life, I've wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself. To be the difference I wanted to see. Shortly after, I discovered a love for travel. A love for new experiences. A love for learning about other cultures and ways of life. I also discovered RAREC (Rainforest Awareness Rescue and Education Center.)
RAREC is a non-profit wildlife rescue organization located in the Amazon Rainforest about an hour from Iquitos, Peru. They work with local communities to rescue and rehabilitate confiscated or injured species for future release. They also house a research facility for Amazonian wildlife, with the goal of protecting existing wildlife populations.
In August of 2024, I will be volunteering at RAREC for a month of discovery.

What does "Follow my arrow" mean?
Released in 2013, Kacey Musgraves sings a song titled "Follow Your Arrow." It's a song that always resonated with me as a kid. "Follow your arrow" simply means whatever happens, whatever you do, whatever your decisions are, you just need to follow your heart's desires. We all have difficulties in life, we all have hardships that we encounter day by day.
Although sparking some controversy in the country music industry after its release, it all started as a simple gesture to a close friend. Kacey Musgraves stated that it started off as a poem for a friend who was going off to Paris to study for four months. Her friend was leaving everything she knew behind, going to a foreign country, and she didn't know the language. The singer gifted her friend a little arrow necklace and wrote a little poem to go with it. It all started with that simple gesture.
